DREADFUL · 01 · FOR THE READING QUIRE

What it costs to be good at it.

A game about people who hunt things that should not exist. And who can only do it by taking those things into themselves.

You play a hunter.

Not an innocent wandering into the dark. Someone who has prepared for it. Someone with a weapon, a file, and other people who expect them to come back.

You follow the testimony nobody believed. You learn the local rules. You find out what the last person missed. When the fighting begins, being ready matters.

The power is worth having.

That is the difficulty. You get better at the Work. You become capable of saving people you could not have saved before. Something of what you hunt remains with you.

Not corrupted by greed. Not seduced by power. Corrupted by competence.

There are people who keep you human. Give them names. You will need them.

At the table.

Dreadful brings gothic action horror, folk horror, and cosmic dread into a narrative roleplaying game. Three to five people play hunters; one storyteller runs the world. Together, you investigate the unnatural and decide what you are willing to pay.

This is horror, not a test of endurance. Agree on boundaries before play. Anyone may pause or step away. The people at the table matter more than the fiction.

The Work is worth doing. That does not mean it will be kind.
